You've got problems? We've got answers..
Beautiful, sunny, warm day.... don't usually get to do the Bickleton Opener
this early in the year. The road to Lava Canyon is still closed due to deep
snow and the Coast is mobbed with Obama Lovers, so East it is.
There was a nice view of the Columbia River and Mount Hood as we neared Wishram.
Suzy likes trails and riding on sunny days. She's a happy goil.
Not much going on in Wishram today. We always enjoy a visit here though. It's
only a mile off the main highway but I don't think many "Tourists" know about the
place. The food in the Pastime Saloon is surprisingly good.
There were a lot more cows than people for the next 100 miles.
It was pretty windy in the Gorge today. And it was EXTREMELY windy once you
got up on the high plains North of Roosevelt. Not a very fun 20 miles.. Happy to
arrive at Bickleton where we were at least somewhat sheltered. It's easy to see
why there are so many wind turbines up here.
The Bluebird Saloon is still open and they seem to be doing well. They are investing
in improvements to the building so hopefully they will be in business for the
foreseeable future. The Bluebird is a good ride destination. Of course we like
Ghost Towns. I recommend the 2x2 with fries. They don't take credit cards though
so bring cash.
There are several old Studebakers up here including this old Wrecker.
The Presbyterian chuch is 90 year old (+/-) and is about the oldest structure in
town, along with the Bluebird Saloon. Several fires over the years have wiped out
most of the original buildings.
Bickleton is supposed to be the bluebird capitol of the world. There are bluebird
bird houses all over. Interestingly enough, I have yet to see a single bluebird up here.
Or a married bluebird for that matter :)
The Bickleton Fire Truck Dealership guys were delighted to see Julie, a professional
fire truck company spokesmodel. This piture will be in the next edition of their
"Where There's Smoke There's Fire" magazine.
There's a bed and breakfast (The Hens Nest) here in town although it's not clear
whether they are open for business.
