GETTING THERE: I-84 to The Dalles.
SR 197 to Maupin (there's one gas station here).
Bakeoven Road to Shaniko.
SR 97 to Biggs Junction.
The Wasco Methodist Cemetery and the Sunrise Cemetery are adjacent
to each other, off to the left on SR 97, just north of Wasco, Oregon.
You can see them up on the hill from SR 97. Fast moving traffic
though so making the left turn on a 4 lane highway can be tricky.

Pictures of past rides to Shaniko: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2014, 2015, 2015 and 2016.

The inscription reads, "He died for his neighbor". I'll bet
there is a story here.....

This is the oldest marker we have ever seen in all of our travels.
Almost all markers prior to 1870 were make of wood and of course are
long returned to the earth by now. This one, which may or may not
have actually been produced at the time of Flora's death, is dated
June 2, 1836.

There are a lot of infant and very young childrens graves here.
The Huck family lost quite a few children at a young age. Life was
tough here back in the old days. There are a few markers for people
who died very late in life but more common are those who died at 21
of in their early 30's.
