Here's pictures of the 2011 Vernonia, Oregon ride.

We were out this way in the Winter of 2014. Pictures of that ride are HERE
and again in Fall, 2014.

Most of the time when we are walking around small towns taking pictures
our presence goes more or less unnoticed. Sometimes, albeit rarely, we
are told in no uncertain terms that we are not welcome in "their" town".
Generally speaking, though, the locals have been very welcoming and
gracious.... not to mention generous with their knowledge of the area
and of the town's history. Not today though.

Some meth head got seriously in my face demanding to know why I was taking
pictures of public buildings while standing on a public sidewalk. Paranoid
much?

I never have my pistol when I need it, it seems. This situation looked like
it was going to get terminal in one big hurry and I'm guessing the local
cops would not have been much help to me in this situation. Reminded me
of a situation in Louisiana 50 years ago when some redneck in one of
those little burbs took offense that I was breathing "his" air. Again,
Billy Bob, the local Cop was certainly not going to be much help...so
I just got out of Dodge in one quick hurry.

Vernonia seems to be putting a lot of money into rehabilitating their
formerly shithole "downtown" area in the hopes (I'm assuming) of
attracting the Tourist trade. IMHO, Vernonia would do better if they
ran their meth heads and hard drug users out of town and made the joint
a little more hospitable for us normal, non-drug using folk.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that this paranoid druggie was
in fact, the Town Mayor.

Obviously, encounters such as this do not exactly entice me into wanting
to spend money here or to patronize any of the local businesses here.
