The entire Klickitat Rail Trail hike is documented HERE.

You couldn't ask for a nicer Fall day to do this hike. It was cold and overcast
in the City but it's not unusual for it to be sunny and dry East of the Cascades.
And so it was today. 60's blue sky and DRY!!!

The Klickitat Rail Trail guys and the Friends of the Gorge put out a really nice
spread. This wasn't your typical snacks of cheetos and chips. They had all sorts
of baked good and lots of them. My favorite was the fresh baked bagels and salmon
spread. There was a meet and greet at the Lyle trailhead. We then broke off into
two groups. One hiked the two miles to the Fisher Hill bridge. The rest of us
car shuttled to the Pitt trailhead for an 8 mile hike back to Fisher Hill.

Due to some sort of bureaucratic red tape, the caboose is still MIA in Goldendale
somewhere... I'll be posting pictures of that when the caboose finally makes it's
way to Klickitat.

It's getting to be late in the season but I guess there are still salmon to be caught.

Washington Fish and Wildlife showed up at the Pitt Trailhead as we were getting
ready to head out. Jim Denton (orange hat) had answers to all of his questions and
a near encyclopedic recollection of pretty much any item of trivia you might think of.
Bev (red kerchief) is our intrepid trail boss and no slouch in the information
department either. Between the two of them, this was a VERY informational and
entertaining hike, not just a fun and scenic hike.

The leaves are probably no more than a week or ten days from peak color.

Meet Eloise... a very nice lady but
no relation to The Queen of the Woild.

No more information on who the dead guy is... but his memorial seems to have
picked up a few more bullet holes since the last time I was here. Tough neighborhood.

This is the original site of the Town of Klickitat. A big advantage of going
on a hike like this with a knowledgeable source like Jim Denton is that he can
explain what you're looking at and add a lot of insight to this area's past.

Apparently, the present day Town of Klicitat was called "Wright". When the mineral
spings business flourished, the railroad changed the name of the town from Wright
to Klickitat (and visa versa). Not much left of the site where Klickitat once stood.

This was some sort of a Station Master's office in the original Town of Klickitat.
There's a 30-something year old New Hampshire license plate tacked up on the wall inside.

Bev and Jim (left), our fearless trail leaders guided us to a safe and successful
conclusion. Bev was behind the camera with a fingerprint on the lens :)
